Cancellation of Tūhono 2020: Stand United
After careful consideration within changing COVID-19 restrictions PNZ will not be hosting Tūhono 2020: Stand United in November.
Following the cancellation of Physiotherapy Conference, Tūhono 2020: Stand United was to be our signature event for the year. However ticket sales have been low. This is understandable given the COVID-19 resurgence and, although a number of options have been explored to host a key event in 2020, we respect the decision by members not to buy tickets this year.
We apologise for this cancellation and are now working to ensure event registrations and sponsorship payments are refunded. All presenters are also being contacted to discuss if any recorded content can be shared with members online.
Uniting the Profession
With changes in alert levels event organisation has been challenging this year. After initial COVID-19 restrictions, up to June, a hybrid event to reunite the profession made sense. At this time members were seeking online content and the country was in decreasing alert level restrictions. However the August COVID-19 resurgence, that saw Auckland back in Alert Level 3 and the rest of Aotearoa in Alert Level 2, has restricted social gatherings and intensified the threat of continued disruptions.
Auckland was chosen as the centre for Tūhono 2020 because of the number of members there, with key considerations being an inexpensive event and sessions available online. While a great deal of effort has gone into developing and marketing a high quality event, Tūhono 2020: Stand United was about coming together to reflect on our collective COVID-19 experience and look towards the future of physiotherapy. This required members to attend in the current alert level system.
PNZ Annual General Meeting
With Tūhono 2020 cancelled the 2020 PNZ AGM will be held online at 4pm on 6 November (please note that the time and date of the AGM has not changed). Hosted from Wellington, members can register to attend at pnz.org.nz. A Zoom link will be sent prior to 6 November to all those who have registered.
A PNZ Leadership Day, for representatives of Branches and Special Interest Groups, will be held online prior to the AGM. More details about this Leadership Day will be sent to Branch and SIG leaders.
Planning from Tūhono 2020 will be used to support key events in 2021 and 2022. This includes next year’s Business Symposium at the Vodafone Events Centre, with a fresh programme designed to inspire physiotherapy business managers, as well as Physiotherapy Conference 2022 in Rotorua which will draw on lessons in offering an engaging hybrid event experience.
Thank you all for your support of PNZ events this year including contributions to Physiotherapy Conference and Tūhono 2020. Particular thanks to those of you who have registered for events, presenters, sponsors, Tae Ora Tinana and programme teams. Your commitment to our events is much appreciated and we look forward to catching up with you soon.
Physiotherapy Conference 2020
Although Physiotherapy Conference is usually held every two years, given the global impact of COVID-19 PNZ did not host a conference in 2020. Read more about the cancellation of Physiotherapy Conference 2020 here.
