PNZ Cultural Audit

As part of our commitment to supporting equity for Māori and being an effective Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, PNZ has been working with SWITCH Trainers and Consultants to understand our current position as a Te Tiriti partner and how to best progress as an organisation.

Alannah Marriott from SWITCH has experience leading significant projects with corporate, NGO's, public sector and not for profit organisations, to improve Māori stakeholder uptake and outcomes across the health, education and justice sectors.

In her work with PNZ Alannah is using a cultural auditing tool with a mix of online and ā kānohi interviews, and a survey of PNZ members, to:

  • Conduct an audit/review of current PNZ policies, systems and processes
  • Make recommendations for PNZ to be an effective Te Tiriti partner
  • Provide governance options for PNZ that recognise shared power in decision making as Tiriti partners

Next Steps

To date the PNZ Executive, Tae Ora Tinana, identified stakeholders, and the PNZ Office have been involved to understand our current position at a governance and operational level.

SWITCH will soon be inviting members to complete a survey on how we’re doing as a Te Tiriti partner. Please look out for this invitation during May and thank you in advance for your support.

Following the survey SWITCH will collate all of the findings into a report for the PNZ Executive to consider. If accepted we will require a Tiriti Action Plan to operationalise recommendations based on a Kaupapa Framework that embraces a Māori world view within PNZ.

PNZ Executive view this as a significant step in being able to uphold the commitment in our Rules to ensure that PNZ meets its responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and support members in improving health equity for Māori.
