PSIG Committee Mission, vision and values, Jan 2024

Mission statement:

Advancing all aspects of child health, function and participation through clinical learning opportunities, connection, advocacy and collaboration.

At the heart of our mission is the commitment to enhancing the lives of pepe (babies), tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) through physiotherapy care. The Physiotherapy New Zealand Paediatric Physiotherapists Special Interest Group is a dynamic community of dedicated professionals who are united by a shared passion for promoting the health, mobility, and development of tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people). The committee focus lies in advocacy, networking, and continuous professional development to ensure that every pepe, tamariki and rangatahi receives the highest standard of care.

Our Core Values:

Excellence in Care: We strive to elevate the standards of paediatric physiotherapy by fostering excellence in clinical practice, research, and education. Through training and continuous learning opportunities, we empower our members to provide evidence-informed interventions that optimize the physical and functional potential of pepe, tamariki and rangatahi.

Advocacy for Child Health: We are unwavering advocates for the well-being of young individuals. Our group collaborates with stakeholders, policy makers, and institutions to champion the rights and accessibility of quality physiotherapy services for pepe, tamariki and rangatahi. We contribute to informed decisions that positively impact the health and futures of the next generation.

Inclusive Networking: We recognize the power of collaboration. Our network serves as a hub for sharing knowledge, resources, experiences, and innovative practices. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, we encourage open dialogue and exchange of ideas among professionals, thus nurturing a vibrant community dedicated to paediatric physiotherapy.

Holistic Professional Development: Embracing the ever-evolving nature of healthcare, we commit to nurturing the growth of our members. We offer resources, webinars, study days and symposium opportunities that enable continuous advancement in evidence based practice, clinical skills, research, leadership, and advocacy, ultimately enhancing the quality of care we provide to pepe, tamariki and rangatahi. In addition, we welcome new therapists to paediatrics and support therapists to enter the field of paediatrics.

Our Vision:

We envision a world where every pepe, tamariki and rangatahi enjoys optimal physical health and well-being. Through our collaborative efforts, the physiotherapy Paediatric Special Interest Group aspires to be setting the standard for expert care, informed advocacy, and professional collaboration within paediatric physiotherapy. We envision a future where our shared dedication results in healthier, engaged pepe, tamariki and rangatahi and whanau who have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
