ABPNZ Educational Evening - Assessment and Management of Acquired Brain Injury/Concussion – A Behavioural Optometrist Perspective


Hi All,

Our next Educational Evening will be at Michael Park School presented by Evan Brown (B. Optom. TPA. FCOVD. FACBO).

Evan Brown is a certified Behavioural Optometrist with specific interest in Visual Dysfunctions Related to Learning and Visual Information Processing, Pediatric and Developmental Optometry, and Vision Sequelae from Acquired Brain Injury.

He graduated from Auckland Optometry School in 1985 and has been self employed in private practice in Auckland for the past 34 years.

He has been a member of the Optometric extension program and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) since 1987.

He completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Ocular Pharmacology in 1996 and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Behavioural Vision Care at the University of New South Wales in 1999.

He became a member of the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) in the same year, completed a Fellowship with ACBO in 2016, and currently sits on the board of ACBO in the position of Past-President.

He is NZ Clinical Co-Director for the NZ Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Opening Eyes Program, and received their Distinguished Service Award in 2013.

In 2004 he was recognized by the NZ Division of ACBO for services to Behavioural Optometry and Children’s Vision Care in NZ.

In 2005 he was awarded the Snowvision Charitable Trust Scholarship for Post-graduate study at the State University of New York Optometry School.

In 2006 he completed the Fellowship process to the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.

In 2012 he finished the post-graduate qualifications for Therapeutic Endorsement at Auckland University School of Optometry and Vision Science.

He is currently co-lecturer and author for the ACBO Practical Vision Therapy Program and is an Honorary Teaching Fellow in the School of Optometry and Vision Science, Auckland University.
