PNZ Subscription Review

With PNZ subscriptions unchanged for several years, part of PNZ Strategy 2021 - 2025 considers whether our member subscription model is appropriate and what changes might be needed in the future.

Subscription Review

To examine our current approach to subscriptions the PNZ Executive commenced an independent review in 2021, with Maven Consulting appointed to:

  • Consider revenue model options for the new unified organisation, evaluate these options, and recommend changes, drawing upon earlier insights gained from a current state analysis review conducted at the end of 2017.
  • Develop a set of principles to inform a future revenue model.
  • Compares our fees and subscription model with other Allied Health professional organisations.
  • Develop options for the fees model and compares these.
  • Draw overall conclusions as to how the future model might operate.
  • Make recommendations to the PNZ Executive.

The Maven Consulting review document was shared with Branch and Special Interest Group (SIG) leaders for feedback in October 2021, with the wider membership invited to comment through an online survey. Following this feedback Maven wrote their final PNZ Subscription Model Design Report.

Report Findings

The Maven report identifies that the overall PNZ subscription structure operates effectively and is consistent with other allied health professional societies. While the reviewer felt the number of membership categories was large, membership feedback was supportive of the existing categories and understanding of how they work.

The report confirms that most of the membership (84%), producing most of the income (94%) from membership subscription, splits more-or-less evenly between full-time (44%) and part-time (40%) members. It is noted that our split of part time hours being 30 hours or less appears to disproportionately skew the reporting of hours worked.

There were 19 opportunities considered as part of the review including corporate rates and standardised SIG subscription. Eleven of these opportunities proved impractical and are recommended to reject. A further five warrant further investigation. Only three recommendations are recommended for implementation.

Subscrition Changes

The PNZ Executive accepted the report at their March 2022 meeting, with PNZ Office asked to do further work on reviewing subscription rates and implement the noted recommendations.
