ACC Allied Health Contract Pricing Review

Kia ora

We’re pleased to share that following ongoing calls for a pricing review of the Allied Health Contract, ACC and PNZ have agreed to proceed with an independent review.

PNZ has long been advocating for this, believing the pricing model is flawed in several areas and the profession requires a model that can be regularly updated. With ACC setting out the current pricing model in their January 2024 provider update, our areas of concern include:

  • The salary proportion of the cost is too low.
  • The salary rates are too high.
  • Productivity expectations are overestimated.
  • Business margins are not sustainable.
  • Inflation modelling is inaccurate.

Thank you for your continued support in our call for a review. It’s anticipated that members will soon start receiving requests to participate, with practices asked to provide financial information to an independent reviewer.

We also continue to advocate on other funding, including Cost of Treatment Regulations and for members working in public health.

Pricing Review Working Group

A Working Group will oversee the review process, consisting of three ACC and three PNZ representatives. Following a call for expressions of interest to join this group in February 2024, the PNZ Executive are pleased to share that this Working Group representing PNZ is led by our President Kirsten Davie, alongside members Grant Chittock, Kara Thomas, and Katy Carnachan. Thank you to everyone who submitted an expression of interest.

Reference Group

To ensure a range of member perspectives can be included throughout the pricing review, the PNZ Executive have also convened an additional Reference Group as a first point of contact to gather feedback and information for PNZ representatives on the joint Working Group with ACC. Draft terms of reference for this Reference Group are available here.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an expression of interest to join this group, which were called for in March 2024. The PNZ members on this Reference Group include Rachael Boyce, Rachael Burke, Nick Conn, David Cooper, Antony Croucher, Kirsten Davie, Simon Keepa, Clare Lovelace, Caleb McCollum, Craig Newland, Paul Nicholas, Connor O’Driscoll, Mark Quinn, Mal Shivnan, and Dale Wilson.
